Event Description

This is the Inaugural First Ever ChocolateWonk (click on the link for more information about becoming an official chocolate Wonk).

More than a Meetup and more than just a tasting, ChocolateWonks are interactive chocolate experiences where chocolate Wonks get together to share their devotion to chocolate.

Each ChocolateWonk focuses on a different area of chocolate appreciation and each ChocolateWonk will feature one or more chocolate makers, chocolatiers, importers/distributors, and people doing interesting things in chocolate.

Because this is the first ChocolateWonk, it is open to members and non-members alike. The meeting fee is $10 per person and a 2-drink per person minimum.

The First Ever Chocolate Wonk! was a terrific event. It was nice to see old friends and to meet new ones. Tim's presentation on Madecasse was an "eye opener" about what is happening in the world of chocolate. I liked the chocolate.
Clay's presentation, as always, was thought provoking and entertaining.
The chocolate tasting was yummy.
I look forward to the next one

The subject of our first Wonk will be Fair Trade and other "ethical trade" certification programs.

The featured speaker will be Tim McCollum, a co-founder of Madecasse, and he'll be talking about what they're doing in Madagascar to support their farmers.

I will also be sharing my experiences working with a family harvesting wild cacao on my recent trip to Bolivia.

Tim will be sampling Madecasse chocolate and I picked up scome fresh samples of Kallari chocolate from Judy Logback recently and I learned what's going on in Ecuador with Ivanhoe and how the oil interests may not be the biggest threat to Kallari communities and the Ecuadorian rain forest.

The meeting fee is $10 plus a two-drink minimum (Jimmy's is famous for their beer list, but non-alcoholic beverages are available).

EVERYONE IS WELCOME AT THIS FIRST WONK. THERE IS NO MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENT.
