About This Group

After the US and the UK, Australasia comprises the third largest group of members on TheChocolateLife. Not just Australia and NZ - I already see that someone from Samoa has joined and commented.

This group is for you to reach out, connect, and support each other. Like virtually all of the groups here - it's serve yourself. It's up to you to figure out how to organize yourself and to use this resource well and wisely.

NOTE: Though I am the creator of this group - be aware that I do not live in Australasia. I can help out for very general questions, but please don't address questions to me personally. This is a self-help resource for everyone down under.

Also - a usage point. Please use the comments section to introduce yourself and make general comments. If you are raising any point that you want feedback on, please start a discussion. As the creator of the group, I have added three on sourcing. Use these as ideas for creating your own.

Enjoy!

PS. To help your fellow members out it would be really great if you replaced the default avatar images with something more interesting. A picture of yourself perhaps or your company logo or a picture of your work.

Hi. I'm a new cacao products importer based in Melbourne. I'm helping a social enterprise of cacao farmers and cocoa liquor manufacturers based in Davao City, Philippines, find market for their cacao beans, nibs and cocoa liquor. We are currently finalizing our Rainforest Alliance Certification. I'm new to the cacao / chocolate industry and, through Chocolate Life, I'm hoping to learn how to best market our products here in Australia. Our website is at http://davao.com.au.

hi all  what is going on with max brenner there was a protest a few months ago 27.8.11at Brisbane's south bank stores & melbourne and now another protest in melbourne today the group  are targeting Max Brenner Chocolates because it is owned by the Israeli-based Strauss Group.

It says the corporate responsibility section of Strauss Group’s website – since amended – pledged the company’s support to the Israeli army, including providing soldiers with food for training and missions.

Hi, I am a 40 year veteran on the cocoa growing industry and living for the last 33 years in West Africa after the first 10 years in PNG.

If you want to know what happens before you get hold of the beans, just ask.

Hi, I'm a professor at a small liberal arts college.  I teach a seminar class on chocolate that covers a number of different subjects.  I have a student currently traveling around the world.  Is there a bean to bar chocolate that one would recommend and can be purchased in melbourne?  My past student has offered to send me a bar (assuming it survives the travel and heat of TX).

This 'service' is basically my hobby at the moment, my day job and family keep me pretty busy. I only get to grind on the weekend which allows me to get a kg batch out allowing time to conch if needed etc so I don't have a lot of time. The FNQ growers are cranking along pretty well now with their efforts to commercialise and I am only doing a few things for them now, that is why I suggested I could do something for Florina if she wanted. I do have plans to set up a business, there is a massive opportunity I feel and like Florina and yourself mentioned there is a lot of good cacao close by. I will check that link though.

As for looking me up Melanie, no worries, I don't have a special set up or anything, I taught myself from www.chocolatealchemy.com and this site. I think I detail my setup in one of the threads in this Choc Downunder. group.

Tom have you tried offering your services to Bris Kanda PNG http://www.bris-kanda.org/. Some amazing cacao comes out of PNG and I dont see much of it here.
