We just introduced monthly cacao farm tours and a chance to see behind the scenes in our chocolate shop on Oahu. We'll also do these tours on other dates by special arrangement if you want to see cacao on Oahu.

The Original Hawaiian Chocolate Factory on the Big Island and Tom Sharkey's also on the Big Island but on the opposite coast are the only places open to the public on the Big Island. In Kauai you can visit Garden Island Chocolate and Steelgrass Farms. To my knowledge they are the only places with a public tour. There are currently no tours on Oahu or Maui although Ono Farms in Maui in Hana has an exotic fruit tour and cacao is included but they do not process it.

Is there a way to tour one or more cacao farms if I were to come by myself or with a small group?

I think there are some of my customers who would enjoy a trip with a chocolate connection.  I would like to explore that possibility with a solo trip over the winter, if I can put enough $$ away over Xmas.

Aloha! I'm Madel, conducting research on cacao at UH. I'm making a list of cacao growers, processors, propagators and chocolatiers in Hawaii. Would you care to send me your name, state if you are a grower, processor, propagator, chocolatier, etc. your farm location/site, home address, emaill address, the no. of cacao grown or if processor/chocolatier, what do you do w/ your cacao? Wanted to take a moment to publicly thank Melanie at Sweet Paradise chocolate for the invite to my family to stop by her kitchen in Maui, and the tastings she offered us while we were there.  Her Wealea shop is beautifully done, and her chocolates were excellent as well - if you get the chance to taste them - do so!

Hi all.  Looking forward to getting threads.  I am a professor of biology at a small liberal arts college and teach an interdisciplinary course on chocolate.  I'm always looking for new developments in the world of chocolate.  As a side note, my "real job" is researching a large snail (called an apple snail) and they are a real problem as an exotic species in Hawaii.  I have colleagues at the University of Hawaii that specialize in biodiversity issues.  Thus, anything "ecological" and "Hawaii" also catches my attention.

I am clearing 2-3 acres for cacao planting here in Puna, does anyone know where to get GRAFTED varieties?

In June Philipp Kauffmann (Original Beans) Erik Sauër and Vera Hofmann could come over to taste your chocolates and thise would be a unique tasting for us, and also I do wait for the Adi Chocolate Fiji to compaire. You shall have your review Nat, thanks.
