What Is A/The Chocolate Wonk?

A chocolate Wonk is a person with a more-than-casual interest in, and devotion to, chocolate.

A Chocolate Wonk is also a meeting of chocolate Wonks who gather together to share their fascination, adoration, and humble devotion to Chocolate.

TheChocolateWonk is a membership club of chocolate Wonks who band together for the purpose of gathering together at Chocolate Wonks.

The annual Wonkership fee is $25. Join Now
The active memberWonk list is limited to 100.
All memberWonks must be of legal drinking age.

Chocolate Wonks

Chocolate Wonks will be posted as Events here on TheChocolateLife.com about two weeks in advance. At least 10 Chocolate Wonks will be held each year. MemberWonks must attend at least four (4) Chocolate Wonks to maintain active status.

Chocolate Wonks will take place on Sundays from 3-5:30pm
The Members meeting fee is $10 (payable in advance or at the door) + 2-drink min.
Non-members $10 advance/$15 at the door + 2-drink minimum.
Drinks cost $3 (soft drinks) - beers range $6-14.
Jimmy's accepts cash only.
Attendance will be limited to 25-30 people.

Comment by Duffy Sheardown on May 12, 2010 at 1:12pm: I have sent 3 bars of "Corazon del Ecuador" 72% and 3 development bars of "Heart of Brazil" 70% for the next Wonk meeting. The Brazil bars are so new I don't have wrappers yet. They were made using fellow The Chocolate Life member Jim Lucas' beans and I took samples to my launch at the London Real Food Festival last weekend. Comments on the Brazil:
1. Warm, chocolatey, coffee at first, slightly burnt aftertaste. Some mould.

2. Fruity, nice grassiness, fresh.

3. Very fruity, would use as a couverture with the cocoa butter reduced.

Comments on the Corazon del Ecuador:
1. TheChocolateReview site said: a "safe" bar. Slight cherry and marzipan.
2. Martin at seventypercent.com said: treacle toffee, over-ripe banana, mulled wine, gentle citrus, raisins and powdered ginger. Tannic aftertaste like black tea.

Comment by Clay Gordon on March 25, 2010 at 10:45am: The subject for the April 25th Chocolate Wonk has been decided - it's all about rating and reviewing. Different approaches, how to do it, what's important to try to convey - and more. Of course, we'll be doing demonstrating using actual different chocolates so I can't imagine a tastier class anywhere.
