- Most memorable chocolate experience:
- Travelling first class to Paris by Eurostar in the morning. Lunch near the Arc de Triomphe with a female friend in the chocolate business. Then a pilgrimage to some of the city's well-known and not so well-known chocolatiers - Weiss, Richart, La Maison du Chocolat, Au Chat Bleu, Jadis et Gourmand, Fouquet, Cacao et Chocolat, and Debauve et Gallais - then back to London that night with sweet memories and inspiration for years to come.
- My favorite chocolate is:
- Any ganache from La Maison du Chocolat, but especially the caramelized butter ganache; a liquid salted caramel globe from L'Artisan du Chocolat; or a bar of Amadei's Chuao.
New Book: The Language of Chocolates
Those of you who love quotable quotes may like to know I have recently published a 100-page book which is choc-full of them. Called ‘The Language of Chocolates’ is a collection of sayings, definitions, allusions, connections and illustrations on everything there is to like about chocolates. Sara Jane Stanes, one of the founders of the Academy of Chocolate in the UK, described it as ‘utterly compelling and enjoyable’; and Joanne Harris, author of Chocolat, described it as ‘scrumptious’. I guess I'm going to Belize with Gordon and a few others, staying on a cacao finca. It sounds wonderful. Wonder how they can make some kinds of chocolate in such hot, humid weather? Guess we'll have to just eat it all up because it won't last in the heat. A rough job, but someone has to do it, right?

Any friend of Amedei Chuao is a friend of mine. I'm still savoring a bar, and eking it out in small portions as special rewards. I'll sure be sad to finish it!
