Episode 156
I first learned of Embers Chocolate and Tandy Peterson through my being a judge in the 2nd Season of the Craft Chocolat Challenge. (This was just before I moved from New York to Arizona in mid-2023; Embers is located in Phoenix.)

Embers Chocolate: Telling Stories Through Unique Flavors Forged in Fire.
A winner in Season 1 of the Craft Chocolat Challenge (2022, Bronze in the Inclusions category), Tandy earned a Silver in 2023 (Season 2) in the Plain and Flavored White Chocolate category for her Dreaming of Thailand bar.
More than two years later, even though I am less than 100 miles away from Phoenix, I have yet to visit the workshop. Nonetheless, I have stayed in touch with Tandy and her work.
- Embers won Gold in the Plain and Flavored Dark Chocolate category for their 70% Wild Bolivia bar in the Craft Chocolat Challenge in Season 3 (also garnering Top Overall Gold).
- For Season 4, Embers had attained MASTER status in the Craft Chocolat Challenge (they had won awards in three consecutive years) – the first to be so recognized. This means they could not enter into the 2025 Challenge. However, we ended up meeting in person (for the first time) in Rushville, IN, for the inaugural Midwest Craft Chocolate Festival.
Embers and Tandy have been featured in several episodes of PodSaveChocolate because of their connection with the Challenge and the Festival, and about nine months ago we did an interview/tasting episode:

In this episode the interview will cover:
- Some big changes going on at Embers – new packaging and major expansion in the midst of uncertain and volatile economic indicators; and
- A Live tasting of three chocolates – two single-origin bars and one seasonal flavored bar. (TBA during the episode.)
- Inspirations, mentors, and other topics that come up and questions asked by the live participants.

Tandy’s will be opening soon in Midtown Phoenix (at 24th ST and N Osborn).
Tandy’s will be a 3-meal a day restaurant with more casual breakfast and lunch counter service and table service in the evening. Chocolate will be an important part of the concept, from drinking chocolates and in house pastries, to indulgent desserts.
Chocolate production is open-kitchen concept for all to observe, from roasting to final production.
